Lucas Paquetá Urges FA to Investigate Leaks in Betting Case

West Ham midfielder, Lucas Paquetá, has formally requested that the Football Association (FA) investigate leaks related to his ongoing betting case.

Paquetá – who was charged in May with deliberately getting booked in four English Premier League (EPL) matches to influence betting outcomes – has denied all allegations and expressed deep frustration over recent media reports.

In a statement shared via Twitter/X on Thursday, 17 October, the 27-year-old Brazilian criticised what he described as “misleading and inaccurate” articles published in England and Brazil.

Paquetá believes the information is being leaked by someone close to the case, undermining his defence and potentially jeopardising his chances of a fair hearing.

The FA’s proceedings are supposed to be confidential, yet details about the case have repeatedly surfaced in the press. Paquetá, upset by these leaks, has instructed his legal team to request a full investigation by the FA into how this sensitive information has entered the public domain.

If found guilty of the charges, Paquetá could face serious consequences, including a lengthy ban. Despite the ongoing investigation, he continues to play for West Ham, having scored two goals in the current EPL season.
