Meghan Markle Unimpressed with Jeremy Clarkson’s Apology
Controversial TV personality and journalist Jeremy Clarkson issued a public apology on Monday, 16 January, for his recent article in which he slammed Meghan Markle.
The column was published in an international publication on 16 December, stating: “I hate her on a cellular level.”
Within the column, the 62-year-old former “Top Gear” presenter said he dreamed of the day when the Duchess of Sussex “is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant ‘shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”
The opinion piece was widely criticised, with more than 20 000 complaints sent to the United Kingdom Independent Press Standards Organisation (Britain’s press and media standards regulatory body). It was removed from the publication’s website just one week later.
According to Clarkson’s apology on Instagram, he also wrote an email to Prince Harry and Markle on Christmas day, 25 December, apologising for his strong words.
However, a representative from the royal couple stated that the email was addressed solely to the Duke of Sussex and marked “Private and Confidential”.
Streaming giant Amazon Prime is reportedly considering parting ways with Clarkson in light of recent events, and will not order any more episodes of “The Grand Tour” nor “Clarkson’s Farm”.
