Mohbad Toxicology Report Revealed, Trial to Start Soon
The Lagos State government confirmed that the toxicology report on the late Nigerian rapper Mohbad, conducted in the United States of America, has been received.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, revealed the update during a press briefing on Monday, 21 October, explaining that the delay in prosecution was due to the extensive investigation process, which included forensic analysis and toxicology.
Mohbad – born Ilerioluwa Aloba – died in September 2023 at the age of 27 under unclear circumstances. While initial reports suggested natural causes, public concern and scepticism regarding the circumstances of his death led to further investigation.
The initial autopsy, however, faced criticism, prompting the government to order a second one after pressure from Mohbad’s family and fans.
Pedro acknowledged the delays but explained the importance of a thorough investigation to secure a proper conviction in court. He also noted that the destruction of Lagos’ forensic laboratory during the “End SARS” protests had contributed to the delays, forcing samples to be sent abroad for analysis.
Pedro did not reveal what the secondary autopsy had uncovered. Despite the challenges, the Lagos State government is preparing to proceed with prosecution, assuring that justice will be served based on the available evidence.
