Mzansi Celebs Rock the Red Carpet at the SAMAs
The dazzling 28th Annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) took place this weekend, featuring many of Mzansi’s A-listers dressed to the nines.
The ceremony was held at the Sun City Superbowl in North West on Sunday, 28 August. The sparkling event comes after two years of virtual ceremonies due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Attendees arrived amid a flurry of camera flashes as a collection of sequins, tight-fighting outfits and feathers in a plethora of colours dominated the evening.
While the red carpet portion of the event was hosted by media personality Zanele Potelwa, the awards themselves were presented by well-known local icons Lawrence Maleka, Nandi Madida, Mpho Popps and Robot Boii.
Music producer Zakes Bantwini walked away with two awards, including the Highest Radio Airplay Composers Award and Best Collaboration for the single “Osama” featuring Kasango.
“Thank you so much … tonight is a beautiful night. This is the first time that I’m winning the SAMA in my career. It’s been 16 years doing this thing (music),” said an emotional Bantwini.
“It goes to show that dreams delayed are not dreams denied but I wouldn’t have done it without this guy,” he added in reference to his collaboration with Kasango.
