Pirates Make History with Valentine’s Day Victory

Orlando Pirates secured a record-breaking 3-0 win over Marumo Gallants last Saturday, 14 February, marking a historic eleventh consecutive home victory.

The result at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng, moves the Buccaneers six points clear at the summit of the Betway Premiership, surpassing the previous Premier Soccer League era record of ten wins.

The atmosphere in Soweto was electric as fans celebrated Valentine’s Day with a pre-match performance from amapiano artist Njelic. On the pitch, Pirates lived up to the hype, maintaining their defensive discipline despite three players sitting on the verge of suspension.

This latest triumph reinforces the belief that the Sea Robbers have the necessary resources to reclaim the title. Reflecting on the team’s evolution, former player Edelbert Dinha stated, “This season is better than last season, and I think they have enough depth in their squad because they have signed enough quality players.”

Focus now shifts to Wednesday’s high-stakes Star derby against Mamelodi Sundowns. Dinha remains confident in the club’s trajectory, noting: “They have so many good players and a team that can challenge Sundowns pound for pound.”
