Ref Makes Red Cards Rain During Chiefs-AmaZulu Game

The 1-1 draw between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC was marked by drama and chaos galore when the referee pulled out not one, but FOUR red cards during their MTN8 semi-final first leg clash.

The scoreboard at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon, 2 October, was first opened at the 13th minute by AmaZulu striker Gabadinho Mhango; 41 minutes later, however, team-mate Veluyeke Zulu was red-carded by referee Victor Gomes for knocking into Amakhosi’s Kgaogelo Sekgota.

Attacking midfielder Keagan Dolly came off the bench in the second half to equalise the score for Chiefs at the 61st minute, but this was overshadowed by Gomes issuing three more cards.

These were given to Mhango at the 87th minute; Usuthu goalkeeper coach Abselon Johan at the 88th minute; and Chiefs midfielder George Matlou in stoppage time, all for off-the-pitch incidents, of which one involved pulling.

Both Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu will face off again on 23 October – for both their sakes, here’s hoping a red-card-happy Gomes won’t be there to officiate!
