Ronaldo Ends Goal Drought in United-Brighton Clash
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal drought has finally come to an end after firing Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over Brighton on Tuesday, 15 February.
The 37-year-old Portuguese superstar had yet to score a goal for the Red Devils in the past six games, prompting pundits and fans alike to question his form.
However, Ronaldo was able to silence his critics when United took on Brighton at Old Trafford: at the 51-minute mark, he cut past Brighton’s Adam Webster, and propelled a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box beyond goalie Robert Sanchez’s reach.
Team-mate Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead with a well-placed strike in stoppage time, taking United back into the top four on the Premier League rankings.
In the post-match press conference, interim manager Ralf Rangnick praised Ronaldo’s impressive display.
“That was an amazing goal,” he said. “I think overall it was a good performance by Cristiano. Energetically, he was on there; he was always trying to help the team-mates, so I think in the last weeks definitely the best performance by him and a very, very important goal for us.”
Can Ronaldo keep the momentum going when the club takes on Leeds this Saturday, 20 February? We’ll just have to wait and see!
