Royal AM Trio Join Other PSL Clubs

Three Royal AM players have found new homes in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Last November, it emerged that club president, Shauwn Mkhize, owed the South African Revenue Service approximately R40 million in tax debt. This impacted Royal AM’s operations, from their matches being suspended to non-payment of players’ salaries.

Eventually, Thwihli Thwahla was put up for sale earlier this month, which led to questions about the future of its players.

Now, according to reports, the trio of Sbangani Zulu, Mfundo Thikazi and Khulekani Shezi has departed from the embattled outfit for greener pastures.

Zulu and Thikazi – who play as a defender and an attacking midfielder, respectively – are said to have joined the ranks of fellow KwaZulu-Natal club, Richards Bay FC. As for defender Shezi, he is now on the books of Limpopo team, Sekhukhune United.

Sekhukhune currently ranks fifth on the PSL table with 34 points, while Richards Bay are lingering in 13th place with 24 points. Here’s hoping their new signings can change their fortunes for the better!

Meanwhile, the rest of Royal AM’s players recently returned to training following news that Durban businessman and political figure, Chockalingam “Roy” Moodley, was buying the club. However, there are currently some business snags that need to be ironed out before the purchase can be made official.
