Siya Kolisi Tempts Tourists to SA
South Africa rugby captain, Siya Kolisi, is putting his powers of fame to good use by encouraging people to visit his home country over the festive season.
The 32-year-old World Cup winner took to Instagram yesterday, Tuesday 21 November, to share a video encouraging Americans to visit Mzansi and enjoy the warm, sunny weather.
Kolisi took the time to praise South Africa’s warm, welcoming people as well as point out the fun tourist attractions like beautiful beaches and exciting safaris. “I know they have snow but thina [sic] we have uBuntu,” he added proudly.
Naturally, followers in the comments section immediately jumped to comparing the laid-back footage – which was shot on a cellphone as he strolled through New York, New York – to Trevor Noah’s recent ad campaign.
Noah has denied rumours that he was allegedly paid R33 million to promote his country, but the elaborate advert shot from a cliffside beachfront house has still received mixed reactions from many.
“Don’t worry your 33m rands [sic] cheque is on the way,” one user named “Noms” commented on Kolisi’s video, along with others who felt it was more authentic.
Another user named “Shawn: also joked: “Someone start a GoFundMe so we can pay him R33 million.”
