Spurs Reject Ajax’s Offer for Bergwijn
Tottenham Hotspur have turned down Ajax’s £15-million offer for winger Steve Bergwijn.
Ever since Antonio Conte took over the reins at Spurs in November, Bergwijn has been struggling to get playing time. He has scored five goals in only 64 appearances for the English club across all competitions.
According to reports, Ajax are looking to sign the 24-year-old Dutch international as a replacement for striker David Neres, who they are expecting to leave their ranks this month.
The reason why Spurs turned down Ajax’s initial offer is because they apparently want to raise money for signings this month. As such, they believe that the Dutch club should pay in the region of £27 million for Bergwijn’s services.
Regardless, even if they don’t manage to sell him, Tottenham can make due with Bergwijn on the pitch due to his availability and his ability to act as a forward.
