Philippe Coutinho Joins Aston Villa on Loan
Barcelona attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, has joined English Premier League side, Aston Villa, until the end of the 2021/2022 season.
News of the 29-year-old Brazilian’s signing was confirmed on Villa’s website via a press release on Tuesday, 11 January.
“Coutinho will spend the rest of this season on loan at Villa Park from FC Barcelona,” they wrote, “with the agreement including an option to buy.”
Per reports, Coutinho will be paid less than 50% of his weekly Barca wages. Despite the pay cut, he says he is excited to be a part of Villa. He’s also delighted to be reunited with coach Steven Gerrard, his former Liverpool teammate from 2013 to 2015.
“I’ve known Stevie for a long time,” he said. “He’s someone who I have big admiration for. I hope to do my best here. For sure, I will work hard, and I hope together we can do good work.”
The Brazilian added: “I’m looking forward to meeting the fans, to being on the pitch. I know and I feel that they’re happy that I’m here … I hope it will be a great rest of the season here.”
