Sundowns Smash Chippa United and New Record

Mamelodi Sundowns inched closer to a historic eighth consecutive Premier Soccer League (PSL) crown with a dominant 3-0 victory over Chippa United on Wednesday night, 7 May.
After a cagey start at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng, the breakthrough came in the 28th minute as Khuliso Mudau linked brilliantly with Arthur Sales before setting up Iqraam Rayners, who buried his 12th league goal of the campaign for the Brazilians.
Jayden Adams doubled the lead shortly before half-time, capitalising on a poor punch by Chippa goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, to score his third PSL goal. Substitute Thapelo Maseko sealed the win later on, rifling in a third goal for Sundowns.
The result not only restored Sundowns’ 12-point cushion over Orlando Pirates, but also saw them break their own scoring record: their 57 league goals surpassed the 56 they netted in the 2021/22 season, with three matches remaining.
Chippa, meanwhile, remain eighth on goal difference and face increasing pressure to finish in the top half of the log. Kaizer Chiefs, Marumo Gallants, Richards Bay and Magesi are all within touching distance, setting up a tense finale in the race for MTN8 qualification.
With a 44-goal difference and the finish line in sight, Sundowns could clinch the title as early as this weekend if results go their way. The road to glory now seems all but paved in gold and goals.
