SuperSport Mulling Over Lepasa’s Future
Zakhele Lepasa’s future is up in the air as he nears the end of his loan spell at SuperSport United.
In January, the 26-year-old forward was loaned to SuperSport for six months by Orlando Pirates, where he had been struggling for game-time. Since then, he has only scored two goals in five games across all competitions for the club.
In a recent interview, club CEO Stan Matthews said they were planning to extend the loans of players such as Grant Margeman and Siphesihle Ndlovu, although Lepasa hasn’t been factored into these discussions yet.
“We would like to retain all of our loan players and we are going to make every effort to keep them,” Matthews explained, “[but] on Zakhele Lepasa, it was never discussed to keep him.
“I asked for a short-term loan because I felt we were a little bit shy in front of a different type of striker because we got target men in Bradley [Grobler], [Thamsanqa] Gabuza, [Thabang] Sibanyoni and [Mamour] Niang.”
Perhaps Matsatsantsa should consider giving the forward the benefit of the doubt after he scored in South Africa’s 2-1 victory against Liberia on Tuesday, 28 March. As always, watch this space!
