SuperSport United Secure PSL Survival

SuperSport United have officially retained their Premier Soccer League (PSL) status following a tense 1–1 draw against Golden Arrows in a replayed match at Lucas Moripe Stadium. 

The fixture, originally abandoned in February due to load-shedding, resumed with the second half on Saturday. The stalemate allowed SuperSport to climb to 14th place, narrowly avoiding the relegation playoff spot on goal difference ahead of Cape Town City .

Interim coach Andre Arendse described the occasion as one of the most nerve-wracking moments of his football career. The result concludes a challenging season for United, marked by the mid-season departure of head coach Gavin Hunt and a series of underwhelming performances that saw the team teetering on the brink of relegation .

Despite securing their top-flight status, speculation surrounds the club’s future. Reports suggest that they may be considering selling their PSL status, potentially paving the way for the return of Bloemfontein Celtic to the league. As the off-season approaches, fans and stakeholders await official confirmation regarding the club’s direction.

For now, Matsatsantsa a Pitori can breathe a sigh of relief, having preserved their place in South Africa’s premier football division.
