Timbaland Apologises for Controversial Britney Spears Comment
Timbaland is facing backlash after joking that Justin Timberlake should have “put a muzzle” on his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears.
The comment was initially made during a public appearance at the Sound Architects convention at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, on Sunday, 29 October.
During the question and answer session, the subject of Spears’ explosive newly released memoir came up, to which Timbaland casually commented: “She [sic] going crazy, right?”, before mentioning he wanted to tell Timberlake that he should have “put a muzzle” on Spears.
Spears’ biography, “The Woman in Me”, has exposed several intimate details – some less than flattering – about her former relationship with Timberlake.
The video, which has been making its rounds on Twitter and other social media platforms, has received significant backlash, with several people calling on the 51-year-old record producer to apologise to Spears.
Timbaland took to TikTok on Tuesday evening, 7 November, to ask forgiveness for his words, saying: “I’m sorry to all the Britney fans, even to her.”
“I’m sorry, because muzzle was—no, you have a voice,” he added. “You speak what you want to speak. Who am I to tell you what not to speak? And I was wrong for saying that.”
