Trump Joins TikTok
Donald Trump, television personality and former president of the United States of America (USA), has joined TikTok after previously attempting to ban it.
The 77-year-old media personality has already collected 4.9 million followers on the social media platform since he joined on Saturday, 1 June.
His first 13-second video features Ultimate Fighting Championship chief operations manager, Dana White, proudly welcoming the politician to the platform. The short clip has already been viewed more than 70 million times.
The former “Apprentice” host joins a slew of other celebrities on the platform, including Will Smith, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and others who have sought to expand their connection with their followers and fans.
The decision to join TikTok is viewed as a curious one, seeing as Trump previously attempted to ban the app in 2020, out of concern for national security in the USA due to growing worries the site could be used to surveil private citizens.
He also launched his own social media platform, Truth Social, in 2022 as an alternative to the likes of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It has seen limited success.
