West Ham Feeling Testy After Defeat
Both the players and manager of West Ham United were struggling to hide their frustrations after being booted out of the Europa League quarter-final last night, Thursday 18 April.
The Hammers hosted Bayer Leverkusen at London Stadium in England, however, despite having the home turf advantage, the visitors were able to walk away from the encounter with a 3-1 aggregate win.
West Ham forward, Michail Antonio, was the first to lose his cool, as he could be seen lashing out at referee, José María Sánchez, at the end of the match. Several of the British fans were also clearly unhappy with the Spanish official’s decisions as he was booed off the field after the encounter.
However, things became particularly awkward during the post-match press conference in an exchange between Hammers head coach, David Moyes, and one of the reporters.
“If this is the end of your tenure at the end of the season, how do you reflect on…” the reporter began to speculate before he was cut off by both Moyes and the club’s attending media officer.
The reporter was seemingly referring to Moyes’ contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
“Sorry, I didn’t get that question,” Moyes said bluntly.
The media officer went on to clarify: “We are not focusing on the end of tenures.”
