Five Women Found Dead in Kempton Park Area

South African police have launched an intensive investigation following the discovery of five women’s bodies in and around the Kempton Park area, including Olifantsfontein and Rhodesfield.

The victims were all found naked or partially clothed with visible bruising. One of the deceased was identified by relatives on Monday as Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, an avid runner and mother of one who went missing after leaving for a routine jog.
The first body was discovered on 15 July bound with cable ties; a suspect was arrested two days later and remains in custody. Subsequent bodies were found on 24 August, 10 September, 12 September, and 14 September.

While authorities state it is premature to confirm a serial killer, national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe noted that the “similarities are sufficiently concerning … to issue a public warning.”

In response, Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane ordered the immediate creation of a dedicated multidisciplinary task team. Led by Major General Mbuso Khumalo, the team includes the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit to determine potential links.

Meanwhile, the South African Police Service has urged women to avoid exercising or walking alone.
