Newcastle United Share New Fan-Approved Club Crest
Newcastle United officially unveiled on Thursday, 1 October, a newly designed club crest marking the culmination of a two-year consultation process and an independent poll of over 27 000 supporters.
The modernised look replaces the previous badge used since 1988, which faced technical limitations and blurring on modern digital screens.
Following clear instructions from 84% of surveyed fans to refine rather than redesign, the updated emblem preserves the club’s traditional identity derived from the city’s coat of arms. It features sharper lines for the central castle, a rebalanced black-and-white shield, and redefined mythological hippocampi that pay tribute to Tyneside’s maritime heritage.
The design, championed by Chief Creative Officer and lifelong Magpies fan Kenneth McIver, won a decisive 64.8% majority in the three-option fan vote.
“Our crest came from the city’s own coat of arms, and it still does,” stated Chief Executive Officer David Hopkinson. “It honours where we have come from, represents who we are now, and will become an iconic symbol for generations of supporters.”
The crest will roll out across digital platforms immediately, with its official matchday debut on playing kits scheduled for the 2027/28 season.
