Szoboszlai Wonder-Strike Caps Liverpool Win Over Spurs

Liverpool secured their place in the Carabao Cup fourth round last night, Tuesday 15 September, following a 3-1 triumph against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England.

Despite both sides rotating heavily, the hosts established dominance through Alexis Mac Allister’s sublime opener. Cody Gakpo extended the lead early in the second half, before Conor Gallagher headed home for Spurs after Giorgi Mamardashvili failed to clear a corner.

Tottenham squandered crucial opportunities, notably when Mohammed Kudus missed from four yards out. Dominik Szoboszlai eventually sealed Liverpool’s victory in stoppage time with a spectacular 25-yard volley.

“It was a worldie,” remarked Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola. “The thing with Dom is you trust him to score before he shoots.”

While Iraola praised his energetic, youthful line-up, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi felt the outcome was harsh given his team’s positive spells.

“We have to shoot more, we have to shoot better and we have to finish better the clear situations,” stated De Zerbi. “I think it is unfair but we have to be stronger in these unlucky moments.”

The defeat leaves Tottenham winless against top-flight opponents this season, while Liverpool comfortably advance to the round of 16.
