Wayne Rooney Offers Warning to Carrick

Wayne Rooney has delivered a blunt warning to former teammate and current Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, cautioning that he is under immediate pressure following a stuttering start to the English Premier League (EPL) season.

The Red Devils have gathered just four points from their opening three matches – while conceding six goals – culminating in a frustrating 2-2 draw with Everton last weekend.

Rooney recently stressed on the “Stick to United” podcast that modern club ownership demands instant success and will not tolerate mediocrity, regardless of squad limitations.

“[Carrick’s] going to have to come out and say the right things. Of course… every manager does that. But he hasn’t got time to wait for next year,” the 40-year-old Man United legend argued. “There is nothing in there which is saying to me now these players are going to take Man United to the next level.”

He also expressed sharp disappointment with United’s summer transfer business, which prioritised midfield additions – including Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans – while failing to recruit defensive reinforcements or cover at full-back and striker.

According to Rooney, Carrick has been shortchanged by the club’s hierarchy, forcing him to deploy players out of position. He also noted that talismanic captain Bruno Fernandes doesn’t have the necessary surrounding support to build a consistent squad.

The immediate priority for Carrick is securing EPL results to ease the intense scrutiny at Old Trafford, rather than relying on new transfers to solve the team’s depth, says Rooney.
