Alanis Morissette on Album Documentary: No ‘Thank U’

Alanis Morissette thinks her fans ought to know that the documentary about her life is “simply not true”.

The 47-year-old Canadian musician had harsh words for “Jagged”, a docu-film that details her life and career, specifically around the time she released her critically acclaimed album, “Jagged Little Pill”, which launched her to fame in 1995.

The feature film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, 13 September. The weekend ahead of release was filled with rumours that Morissette would not attend as she was unhappy about director Alison Klayman’s final product. No reasons were given.

The following day, the “Ironic” hitmaker shared a statement that read: “I agreed to participate in a piece about the celebration of “Jagged Little Pill”‘s 25th anniversary, and was interviewed during [my third postpartum depression during lockdown].”

She admitted: “I was lulled into a false sense of security and their salacious agenda became apparent immediately upon my seeing the first cut of the film. This is when I knew our visions were in fact painfully diverged. This was not the story I agreed to tell … this one includes implications and facts that are simply not true.”

The documentary is expected to air on TV network, HBO, on 19 November.

Neither HBO nor Klayman have responded to Morissette’s comments.
