Chelsea-Christensen Contract Talks Break Down
The future of Chelsea defender, Andreas Christensen, is in doubt after talks between him and the club hit a snag.
The 25-year-old Danish player, who has made 80 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2012, was reportedly offered a four-year deal in August, with an option to add a fifth year.
However, despite the deal coming with a slightly larger salary increase, it still means that Christensen will remain one of the club’s lowest-earning senior players. Presumably, this is what led to talks between the two parties stalling.
The defender’s contract ends in June next year, and coach Thomas Tuchels is hoping to keep him at Stamford Bridge for longer.
Tuchel remarked in a recent interview: “He is very strong, very reliable and he has not reached his limits because at his age there is still room to improve. He can be a top defender for us in the next [few] years and hopefully he will be … He knows what it takes and he has improved massively so far but it is not done yet.”
