Chet Hanks Slammed for Anti-Vaxx Rant
Chet Hanks is courting controversy after embarking on an anti-vaccine rant on Instagram.
On Monday, 9 August, the 31-year-old actor – who is the son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson – posted a video to the social media platform. At first, he seemingly appealed to viewers to get the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
He said: “I think everyone should. I think it’s really important that we all do this just as citizens … we have to look after each other and get this … under control, guys.”
A few seconds later, however, Hanks shouts: “Psych! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’ve never had COVID [sic]. They ain’t sticking me with that needle. It’s the flu. Get over it.”
He derisively added: “If you’re in danger, [stay inside]. I’m tired of wearing a mask.”
Needless to say, online users were not impressed with Hanks’ rant, which comes a year after his parents tested positive for – and recovered from – COVID-19.
One tweep remarked: “#ChetHanks could care less about other people and not wanting to get vaccinated or wear a mask when mandated since he is so selfish right back at him: his parents who BOTH had COVID and could have died do not owe him, his girlfriend, or their granddaughter a PENNY in inheritance [sic].”
