Gospel star and medical doctor, Tumisang Makweya – best known as Dr Tumi – and his wife, Kgaogelo Sara Makweya, have been arrested for allegedly defrauding the National Lotteries Board of approximately R1.5 million.

The couple was arrested on Tuesday, 6 April, by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Johannesburg.

According to the Hawks spokesperson, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, Dr Tumi, his wife and their co-accused managed to get over R1.5m transferred into a personal bank account.

She said: “The couple together with their co-accused, Chistopher Tshivule (46) and Thomas Ndadza (48) allegedly altered information on the documents submitted to the National Lotteries which resulted to the amount of over R1.5m being transferred into a private bank account.”
