Durban City Promoted to Betway Premiership

Durban City FC are back in the Betway Premiership!
Taking on Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, Western Cape on Sunday, 18 May, Durban City (formerly Maritzburg United) won the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) final 1-0.
The sole goal of the game came from midfielder Ruzaigh Gamildien, who scored a header in the 43rd minute.
As a result, the KwaZulu-Natal club has secured promotion to the Betway Premiership, the top flight from which they were relegated following the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, Spurs – alongside Leruma United – have been relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, South Africa’s third-tier football league.
Despite their victory, however, Durban City will face a delay in receiving their MFC title, as they are currently under investigation for a disciplinary issue regarding the eligibility of their player, Saziso Magawana, and whether his registration was handled correctly.
If found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Durban City could face serious repercussions, namely the deduction of their points and possible relegation to the ABC Motsepe League.
