Eva Mendes Praises Ryan Gosling for Oscars Nomination
Eva Mendes is proud of her man, Ryan Gosling, who scored a nod from the Academy Awards for his role in “Barbie”.
Two years after critics lambasted Gosling for being chosen to play Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, the 43-year-old was recently nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Oscars for this exact same role.
On Wednesday, 24 January, Mendes – who’s been together with Gosling since 2011 and shares two children with him – took to Instagram to applaud him, as well as to take shots at those who doubted his ability to pull off a convincingly youthful yet multi-faceted Ken.
“So proud of my man,” she wrote alongside a screenshot of a 2022 article that critiqued Gosling. “So much hate when he took on this role … Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars.”
“So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.”
While some may agree with Mendes, others – including Gosling himself – are still sore over the fact that director Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, who played the titular character, did not score nods for their respective work on “Barbie”.
“There is no ‘Barbie’ movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” he lamented in a recent statement.
