Frank Lampard Sacked by Chelsea
Chelsea have decided to terminate Frank Lampard’s contract as the heach coach of the club with immediate effect, after an 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge.
On Monday, 26 January, the Blues made a “very difficult decision” to relieve their all-time record goal-scorer of his managerial duties after a poor run that has left the club occupying position 9 of the English Premier League table.
The club statement reads: “We [Chelsea] are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as head coach of the club.”
They added: “However, recent results and performances have not met the club’s expectations, leaving the club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.”
Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich, also released a statement emphasizing how difficult it was for the club to release their icon – giving praise to Lampard’s work ethics and integrity.
