Has “The Black Door” Been Cancelled?

South African television broadcaster, e.tv, has dismissed reports that its adult telenovela, “The Black Door”, has been cancelled.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, 31 August, entertainment blogger Phil Mphela claimed that the risque, raunchy show will be taken off the air after only one season.

“The e.tv telenovela will not be renewed for another season,” Mphela wrote. “Pulling just under [the] 2.6-million viewers peak – with an audience share of 37.4% for its time slot, the show was not a dud, numbers-wise.”

E.tv has since denied all speculation regarding the supposed cancellation of “The Black Door”. They claimed that “all is well” with the soapie, which boasts big names like Zamani Mbatha, Zodwa Wabantu, and – most recently casted – Sthembiso “SK” Khoza.

However, if it is true, then this makes “The Black Door” the second show produced by Black Brain Pictures to be canned: in mid-August, “DiepCity” was also cancelled after two seasons, although its production was slated to run for two years, anyway.
