Kuli Roberts, 49, Passes Away
Veteran media personality Nomakula “Kuli” Roberts, 49, has passed away.
On Thursday afternoon, the Roberts and Mboya families released a statement in which they confirmed her unexpected passing, which occurred the night before when she collapsed on the set of her new show. The cause of death has not been revealed.
“Affectionately known and loved by her friends, family, and the South African entertainment industry at large, Kuli Roberts was an all-round media personality who was always the life of any gathering,” they wrote.
“Her love for family, friends, work and very importantly her community is well-known. Kuli leaves behind her two children, her beloved grandchild, her parents and three siblings.”
Roberts was best known for co-hosting SABC 1’s “The Real Goboza” with Phat Joe, and later SABC 3’s “Trending SA” with Nina Hastie, Musa Mthombeni and Pabi Moloi.
Fans and friends alike paid tribute to her on social media, including entertainment reporter Tinashe Venge, who tweeted: “I had the privilege of meeting and interviewing her a number of times, and she was always such a vibrant and loving personality. May she Rest [sic] in eternal peace.”
