DJ Citi Lyts, 32, Killed in Hijacking
Yet another star in South Africa’s sky has faded away too soon, as DJ Citi Lyts tragically passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday 14 February.
According to family spokesperson Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini, Citi Lyts – real name Sandile Mkhize – and his friends were ambushed by four armed hijackers in Dube, Soweto.
“Four guys came out of nowhere, stopped them, and shot them in their heads,” explained Dlamini. “They fought as much as they could, and the guys shot them. I can’t confirm how many they were in the car [a silver VW polo] yet.”
Citi Lyts – who was apparently shot at least eight times – was verified dead by the paramedics. Conflicting reports state that he died between 00:30 AM and 02:00 AM.
The 32-year-old had followed in the rap path of his late brother, ProKid, by starting out as rapper F-Eezy’s hypeman and deejay. He then joined Ambitiouz Entertainment and released hit songs such as “Malambane”, “Shishiliza” and “Washa Washa”. Afterwards, he left the label to pursue his solo career.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects involved in Citi Lyts’ hijacking and death.
