Lauren James Confesses to Eyeing Burna Boy

Chelsea forward Lauren James has admitted that she wouldn’t mind going on a date with Nigerian afrobeats star, Burna Boy.

The 22-year-old soccer player let the news slip during an interview with an international publication on Saturday, 30 September. At the time, James was asked which three people she’d invite for dinner, to which she gave the interviewer’s name – Karen Carney – as well as the names of comedian Kevin Hart and singer Burna Boy.

A fan page for the 32-year-old “Like to Party” hitmaker shared the short clip to Twitter on the same day, prompting Nigerian fans to have their say on the potentially budding romance between the two. Most were quick to discourage their icon from pursuing the athlete, reminding Burna Boy about James’ recent altercation with Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie.

As Nigeria and England went head-to-head in the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year, a camera caught footage of James stepping on Alozie’s back. The resulting picture – with Alozie holding her hands up in a comical fashion – was an immediate hit on social media platforms.

Many Nigerians have been quick to point out that Burna Boy might suffer the same fate, as one person jokingly commented on Facebook the next day: “Burna, how many times have I called you, remember what she did to our Nigerian sister o [sic].”
