Luvuyo Memela Joins Richards Bay FC
Former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu attacker, Luvuyo Memela, has joined Richards Bay FC.
On Thursday, 4 August, the KwaZulu-Natal-based club announced on Twitter that the 34-year-old would be joining them. The length of his contract and how much he’ll be earning have yet to be disclosed.
“We would like to take this opportunity and confirm the signing of midfielder Luvuyo Memela, who was on the books of AmaZulu FC,” they wrote. “Welcome to the Natal Rich Boyz Family [sic].”
Previously, Memela played for Orlando Pirates from 2015 to 2020; thereafter, he joined AmaZulu, where he was named the club’s Players’ Player of the Year for the 2021/2022 campaign.
However, the club sacked him after his contract expired two months ago.
“Luvuyo Memela was one of the players that did well for the club last season,” club president Sandile Zungu said in a previous interview. “We were very pleased with him, but his contract came to an end; we had to negotiate, but unfortunately, we couldn’t agree.”
Perhaps he will fare better this season AND get to flex his playing chops tomorrow, Saturday 6 August, when Richards Bay take on Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.
