Man United vs Liverpool Postponed Due to Fans Protest

Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool was postponed on Sunday, 02 May, after hundreds of United fans stormed the Old Trafford pitch to protest against the club’s ownership by the Glazer family.

The behind-closed-doors game which was scheduled to kick off at 4.30PM had to be delayed and eventually cancelled as the crowd was uncontrollable.

Supporters want the current club owners, the Glazers to end their ownership of the club, which they acquired in 2005.

They also want the club to adopt the 50+1 football voting rule, which grants the fans a 51% voting majority when it comes to any and all decisions.

This clash between the owners and fans was fuelled by United’s decision to withdraw from the European Super League, two weeks ago.

The Premier League released a statement condemning the violence this protest has caused as two police officers were left injured and had to be hospitalised.

The statement reads: “We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated COVID-19 breaches.”

The EPL will release a rescheduled match date for this fixture soon.
