Manchester United Goes Shopping for Players
Manchester United have cast a wide net during the transfer window: first by securing Erik ten Hag as head coach, and second by filling several key positions.
According to reports, the Red Devils and the 54-year-old Dutch manager are about to put pen to paper over final details and secure the £27-million deal. Despite the widespread notion that Ten Hag was on his way out, the new contract will see him stay at Old Trafford until 2027.
United are looking to rebuild their side after a less-than-ideal 2023/24 season saw them finish in eighth place; they have now set priorities for the centre-back, central midfielder and striker positions.
For potential strikers, Joshua Zirkzee is a major target, and Man U are more than willing to foot his £33.8-million release clause from Bologna FC.
To beef up their centre-back position, United are looking to Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but Newcastle United are apparently close to signing the 21-year-old Toffees star, as he has a year left on his current contract.
Meanwhile, Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot could be joining ten Hag’s team on a free transfer, but it will come down to the wire as Arsenal and Aston Villa are said to be eager to grab the Frenchman, too.
Only time will tell what moves materialise before the transfer window closes in August.
