Monnapule Saleng’s Future in Doubt at Pirates

Monnapule Saleng’s future at Orlando Pirates remains uncertain amid ongoing speculation about a potential move to Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
The 27-year-old winger has been absent from Pirates’ matchday squads since December 7, 2024, when he featured in a CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly.
His prolonged absence is believed to stem from a salary dispute, though the club has not officially confirmed this.
Despite his inactivity at the club level, Saleng showcased his talent in March this year by delivering a strong performance for Bafana Bafana during an African Nations Championship qualifier against Egypt in Bloemfontein.
Rumours have linked Saleng with a transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, but former Pirates midfielder Benedict Vilakazi has expressed skepticism about the move.
Vilakazi questioned whether Saleng’s playing style would align with Chiefs’ current system, citing examples of players like Gaston Sirino, Khama Billiat, and Keagan Dolly, who struggled at Chiefs due to a lack of a strong supporting core.
Saleng remains under contract with Orlando Pirates until 2027, and no official statements have been made regarding his future. As the new season approaches, it remains to be seen whether he will reintegrate into the Pirates squad or seek opportunities elsewhere.
