Morena Shines as Sundowns Beat Richards Bay 1-0
Thapelo Morena can pat himself on the back for helping Mamelodi Sundowns break their three-match winless streak in their match against a plucky Richards Bay FC on Tuesday evening, 25 April.
In their last three Premier Soccer League (PSL) games, the reigning champions drew twice to Moroka Swallows FC and Golden Arrows, while losing 2-1 to Stellenbosch FC just two weeks ago.
Luckily, Morena was on hand to turn their fortunes around last night at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria: after 25 minutes of strong resistance from Richards Bay, the 29-year-old defender neatly slotted the ball into the back of the box.
For the rest of the game, the Brazilians tried their best to extend their lead, although the Natal Rich Boys – specifically their goalkeeper, Omar Jamal Salim Magoola – prevented them from doing so.
All in all, Mamelodi Sundowns earned what could be described as a hard-fought 1-0 victory, thanks to Morena, while Richards Bay also looked good in their showing.
Still, it doesn’t do much for the latter in terms of rankings: they’re sitting in 10th place with only 32 points, while the champs reign supreme in first place with 65 points.
