Neuralink Implant Patient Talks About Life-Changing Device

Noland Arbaugh endured a crippling accident several years ago, but with a revolutionary brain implant, he feels like he has a new lease on life.

A “freak diving accident” left the 29-year-old with several dislocated disks in his neck, resulting in no sensation from the neck down and wheelchair-bound. However, Neuralink Corporation entered his life in January 2024, and now he is experiencing independence despite being a quadriplegic.

The neurotechnology firm implanted a brain-computer interface into Arbaugh’s cerebral cortex; the surgeons fitted a coin-sized chip that uses a multitude of electrodes to record neuron activity in the brain and translate it into signals that can be read by digital devices.

Following his first appearance in mid-March, Arbaugh continues to share updates about his life and has given several interviews.

One aspect he continues to gush about is the dramatic improvement in his quality of life, saying: “It makes – this is going to sound really kind of crazy – but it makes being paralyzed really not that bad.”

“Anything that makes me more independent I’m all for and this is probably going to make people like me the most independent that they might ever be until it all gets cured — and I think that’s a very real possibility,” Arbaugh added.
