Rasta Unveils Portrait of Trevor Noah

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, which we think was the unintentional aim of infamous painter, Lebani “Rasta” Sirenje, when he unveiled his latest artwork.

Earlier this week, Rasta – who’s known for producing notoriously bad artwork of celebrities and other famous figures – took to social media to share images of his latest creation: a portrait of comedian Trevor Noah … at least, that’s who it’s supposed to be.

“Trevor has inspired and motivated us all in [the] creative industry,” he said in an interview published by a local media outlet on Thursday, 31 August. “I wanted to be in his one-man show and paint him live when he does his comedy show, which would centre me well on the world stage.

“I look up to such legends who go all out and present themselves on a world stage before the critics, like I do with my art. I’m looked at as if I’m a comedian.”

Indeed, Rasta’s portrait of Noah earned him a few giggles online, with some thinking it was actually actor Alfred Ntombela.

Here’s hoping Rasta will get the opportunity to meet Noah, who is back in South Africa on a comedy tour – and this time, maybe he’ll paint a more accurate portrait!
