Romelu Lukaku Makes Amends With Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku is slowly but surely getting back into Chelsea’s good graces following the controversial comments he made during a recent television interview with an Italian sports outlet.
The interview, which aired last Thursday, 30 December, saw Lukaku questioning coach Thomas Tuchel’s methods and reiterating his desire to return to Inter Milan some day. As a result, he was dropped from the Blues’ 1-1 tie with Liverpool two days ago.
The 28-year-old Belgian striker soon apologised for the controversy, saying that “the interview was about saying goodbye to the Inter fans, it was not about trying to disrespect the fans, the football club, the owner, my team-mates and the manager.”
On Tuesday, 4 January, Tuchel explained during a news conference that he and Lukaku “talked calmly” about the situation, and that the latter will now be part of the squad which will take on Tottenham Hotspur today.
Of course, says Tuchel, Lukaku will still face the consequences of his actions: “There will be some disciplinary action and he will accept it. It’s not a small thing, it’s not the biggest thing and it doesn’t make a comeback impossible – absolutely not … he will be fined and he needs to accept it.”
