Saudi Trip Spells Trouble For Messi
Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) might be parting ways in the near future.
According to reports, the 35-year-old footballing superstar received a two-week suspension from the Ligue 1 champions on Tuesday, 2 May, after an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia to fulfil certain commercial obligations, as per his tourism ambassador position for the country.
To make matters even worse, fans took to protesting against Messi and his behaviour outside PSG’s headquarters in Paris, France the following day.
The Argentinian’s relationship with the Parisian club has become frosty in recent months as the expiration of his contract at the end of the current season draws nearer. Rumours are swirling that he’s decided to leave once the season is over.
Club management has taken a zero-tolerance approach with regards to ill discipline, and it looks like they’re taking a stand against egos as “nobody is more important than the club.”
A source within PSG also spoke about Messi’s punishment: “He cannot train, cannot play, and will not be paid while disciplinary measures are in place.”
While his future with PSG looks all but over, it would appear that Saudi Professional League champs, Al Hilal SFC, have shown interest in the Argentinian.
