Stones Set to Stay at City
Manchester City centre-back, John Stones, will remain at Etihad Stadium after signing a five-year contract.
According to reports, the 27-year-old Englishman – who enjoyed a career resurgence during the 2020/2021 English Premier League season – will stay at the club until 2026.
His new deal will see him netting a cool £250 000 a week.
Joining the Citizens in 2016 for £47.5 million, Stones was linked with a move away from the club in the past year due to poor form, frequent injuries, and an admitted lack of confidence after falling down the pecking order.
Now, thanks to his recent on-pitch partnership with team-mate Ruben Dias, the centre-back is considered a key part of Pep Guardiola’s defensive back-line.
Indeed, Guardiola praised Stones’ turnaround in a previous interview: “If there is one guy who deserves the best, it is John. He’s struggled a lot, but he’s a fantastic human being. His parents must be so proud.”
The Spanish coach added: “He’s had personal problems in the past, injuries. At the moment, he’s set up good … Confidence is everything. He won his confidence for himself.”
