Sundowns Seek Top Spot Against Winless Magesi

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to climb the Betway Premiership rankings when they host Magesi FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng, on Sunday, 14 September.

Masandawana head into the clash unbeaten in the league, having collected three wins and two draws so far. Their latest result, a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, sees them just two points off table leaders Sekhukhune United, who have 13 points.

With this being the only Premiership fixture of the weekend, a win would see the Tshwane giants seize the top spot. Magesi, on the other hand, remain winless this season, registering three draws and two defeats, while sitting in 14th place with three points.

John Maduka’s men have shown defensive discipline but continue to lack a cutting edge when it comes to attacking. The struggling coach admitted progress is ongoing, saying: “They never used to play from the back, middle third to the final third… the usage of the ball has tremendously improved.”

Sundowns have been boosted by the return of Thapelo Maseko and Khuliso Mudau, while new signee Katlego Ntsabeleng could make his debut. Star striker Peter Shalulile, fresh from international heroics with Namibia, will again lead the pack.

Magesi face an uphill battle, but a resilient performance could provide confidence for the war ahead.
