Tinkler Gives Update on Injured Mntambo

Sekhukhune United boss Eric Tinkler has provided an update on injured captain, Linda Mntambo.

On 13 August, Mntambo sustained what was then an unspecified injury in the 83rd minute of Sekhukhune’s Betway Premiership match against TS Galaxy.

Following Babina Noko’s 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC on Saturday night, 23 August, Tinkler gave a grim update on the 36-year-old midfielder:

“Linda is our captain, and he was actually doing well for us. Unfortunately, Linda has a fractured ankle. So, he will be out for, at least, the next three months.”

Despite this setback, Tinkler is hopeful that other players in the team, namely Thabang Monare, Siphesihle Mkhize and Vusimuzi Mncube, will be able to “step up” and uphold Sekhukhune’s midfield in their absent skipper’s stead. 

“I think everyone else tonight did well. Thabang Monare, Siphesihle Mkhize and Vusimuzi Mncube performed very well,” the 55-year-old tactician remarked. “I can’t fault the efforts that everybody is putting in, and this is what we have; they need to step up.”

Topping the Premier Soccer League table with nine points, Sekhukhune United will need to maintain their momentum when they face off against AmaZulu FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo this Wednesday, 27 August.
