Wednesday Gaming – PlayStation Lay-Offs, Pokemon, Star Wars and MORE!
Catch up on the latest news, rumours and announcements from the world of video games, tech and entertainment:
– Yet another round of lay-offs is expected, this time at Sony: approximately 900 PlayStation employees worldwide will be let go. According to CEO Jim Ryan, this is due to “the evolving economic landscape, changes in the way we develop, distribute and launch products, and ensuring our organisation is future ready in this rapidly changing industry.”
– As a result of these lay-offs, added Ryan, many games that are currently in development “will not move forward” as planned, although he did not specify which ones are cancelled.
– In related news, Deck Nine, the developer behind “Life is Strange: True Colours”, has cut 20% of its work staff due to “worsening marketing conditions.”
– “Pokemon Legends Z-A” is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2025. Per reports, it will be set in Lumiose City and may feature an open world setting.
– Ahmed Best, the actor who portrayed the character Jar Jar Binks in the “Star Wars” franchise, shared a photo of himself on Instagram wearing a motion capture suit. Hashtags underneath the photo include “#starwars”, “#jarjarbinks” and “activision”, which suggests that Activision is working on a new “Star Wars” game.
