AmaZulu Official Receives 3-Month Ban
AmaZulu FC official Simanga Mchunu has been banned from all football-related activities after subjecting a female Orlando Pirates official to verbal harassment.
According to Zola Majavu, the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL’s) official prosecutor, Mchunu directed comments “of an unsavoury, unwelcome, discriminatory and sexually derogatory nature” at the unnamed female official.
It is unclear when and where these comments were made; the last time AmaZulu and Pirates faced off was at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on 24 October 2023.
Per reports, Mchunu appeared before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on Monday, 11 March. He initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea and offered a formal apology after the female official gave evidence.
“Mr Simanga Mchunu is banned from all football activities for an effective period of three months,” said Majavu. “His employer AmaZulu FC is further directed to send all its officials in the security and communications department for diversity and gender sensitivity and related issues.”
AmaZulu did not receive a monetary fine. However, the club is ordered to carry the costs of the Committee sitting.
