Arsenal Blast Bolton With Revived Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling netted his first Arsenal goal, while 16-year-old Jack Porter became the club’s youngest-ever starter in a 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Bolton on Wednesday, 25 September.
Sterling – who joined the Gunners on loan from Chelsea just last month – scored in the 64th minute, lighting up Emirates Stadium as the home side romped to victory. The 29-year-old winger is aiming to revive his career after a disappointing two-year spell at the Blues.
Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, made seven changes from their 2-2 draw against Manchester City, including giving Porter his debut in place of the injured David Raya. At 16 years and 72 days old, the youngster surpassed Cesc Fabregas’s record by 105 days.
Declan Rice opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with Ethan Nwaneri doubling the hosts’ lead before half-time and scoring again early in the second half.
Bolton’s Aaron Collins pulled one back in the 53rd minute, but Sterling and Kai Havertz completed their side’s dominant victory, ending the match 5-1.
After the game, Arteta sang Sterling’s praises: “He was great. He’s started to show glimpses of what he can do. Physically, he needs to get to the level we require, but it was a massive step today.”
