Arsenal Sitting Comfortably at Head of EPL Table
Arsenal secured their spot at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) with a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last night, Sunday 17 December.
The Gunners welcomed their visitors to Emirates Stadium in London, England with trepidation as Brighton had won their previous three trips to the sports compound in all competitions.
However, the hosts managed to find their feet just eight minutes after the second half of the match began: Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus set the first point on the scoreboard as he weaved past the Seagulls’ ironclad defence.
Midfielder Kai Havertz secured a victory for the Gunners by claiming the second goal just before stoppage time at the 87-minute mark, with the help of his teammate Eddie Nketiah.
“It was an incredible performance. It was a joy to watch from the start to the end,” Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, said during the post-match press conference.
He later added with pride: “The way we played against a phenomenal Brighton side was incredible. We were patient, kept going, kept believing and got what we deserved.”
The EPL leaders will need to fight to keep their position, as Liverpool are just one notch behind them on the leaderboard, holding 38 points to Arsenal’s 39 points.
