Arsenal’s Aubameyang Joins Barcelona
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now a member of Barcelona FC.
According to reports on Monday, 31 January, Aubameyang joined the Spanish outfit on a free transfer from Arsenal. The deal will run for six months.
The 32-year-old Gabon star has not played for the Gunners since last December after breaching coronavirus protocols following a personal trip to France. Additionally, he was stripped of his captaincy.
According to football writer Guillem Balague, Aubameyang – who scored 92 goals in 163 games for the Gunners – flew out on a private jet to the city of Barcelona on Monday for a medical.
“Barcelona had two million euros in wages to pay and Aubameyang was happy to accept any payment in the end,” wrote Balague. “Then Arsenal accepted a free transfer. That means the Gabon forward may just get two million euros this season – rather than the circa nine million euros he was due at Arsenal – and more later.”
Only time will tell if the transfer will pay off for both Aubameyang and Barcelona.
