Aston Villa Climb EPL Rankings
Aston Villa have impressively risen to fifth place in the English Premier League (EPL) rankings after a 4-1 victory over West Ham United yesterday, Sunday 22 October.
Villa – who were sitting in 17th place on the EPL table this time last year – hosted the Hammers at Villa Park Stadium in Birmingham, England. Before the kick-off, a minute of silence was observed for the late football icon, Bobby Charlton, who had passed away the day before.
The match was tense from the start, with Villa player Douglas Luiz claiming the first goal only 30 minutes after the first whistle was blown. The unstoppable Luiz proved his worth once more by earning a second point for his side with a penalty goal at the 52nd-minute mark.
West Ham midfielder Jarrod Bowen wasn’t ready to go down without a fight, and struck the solitary goal for his side just four minutes later, with the help of his teammate, Edson Álvarez.
Villains forward, Ollie Watkins, impressed the crowd with a powerful strike at the 74th minute, adding a third point on the scoreboard for his side.
Leon Bailey and Youri Tielemans provided to be a power pairing for the hosts during the final moments of the match, as Tielemans assisted Bailey in scoring the final point of the evening at the 89th-minute mark.
